Coca-Cola chicken wings are very popular in Asia. Although many people believe that this dish is exclusively a chinese chicken recipe, it is also very popular in other asian countries like South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam. I have no idea where this recipe originates from. Indeed, I first discovered this chinese chicken wing recipe from my vietnami roommate back in 2006. She had bought a bottle of coke and I was surprised to see her cook chicken wings with it! Coca cola recipes? Who would have thought?! She said it’s a very common and popular Vietnami dish, which lead me to believe that Coca-cola chicken wings is a Viet recipe. Later on, while talking about chinese recipes with one chinese friend, he asked if I knew about cola chicken wing or 可乐鸡翅 (kele jichi), further adding that it’s a Chinese household recipe. On another occasion, while in the dorm kitchen, I saw one of my Korean neighbours making Cola Chicken and she said that this was a Korean recipe! Very confusing, isn’t it? For simplicity, I just classified it as a chinese chicken recipe, although it should be an asian chicken wing recipe.
Anyway, whether it is a chinese recipe or vietnami recipe or korean recipe, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that Coca-cola Chicken is awesomely delicious! Also, it makes the perfect chicken wings recipe! I never quite understood why they use coca-cola. I think it’s because of the gas and sugar in it because my mom was saying you could try with soda water as well. Hmmm, I have never tried with soda water, so I can’t really comment much about it.
These coca cola chicken wings taste wow. They have this bbq-like coating of sauce on them and the dried red chillies give them this spicy taste. I don’t know about you guys, but I can eat like 10-15 of those! I hope you all enjoy this homemade chicken wings recipe!
Note:
1. Making small cuts in the chicken enables the sauce to “enter” the meat, making it more tasty.
2. Don’t use Diet Coke. The more sugar in your coca-cola, the better it is!
3. If you have diabetes, stay away from this dish! Its sugar content is quite high.
4. Regularly check the chicken wings when cooking because once the liquid has reduced, they can easily get burnt, like mine amost did!

Total Time:15 minutes

Ingredients:
- 15 pieces of chicken wings
- 3 cloves garlic, sliced
- 4 slices ginger
- 3 dried red chillies
- 1 can of coca-cola (330ml)
- 1/4 cup light soy sauce

OOOhhh! These look so good. I’m such a coke addict, but I’ve never made these before. And it’s so simple with ingredients that I always have stocked in the pantry.
@Jamie: They really are easy to make! And the ingredients are so readily available!
We have lots of coke in the cabinet. I’ll need to cook this soon! Bookmarked!
Nami! I hope you tried this recipe. I was wondering if Japanese cook anything with Coca-Cola? I know Korean, Thai, Chinese, Vietnami like to cook meat with Coca-Cola. How about Japanese?
I recently heard about cooking in coca cola. Someone cooked their christmas ham in coca cola. I thought it sounded a bit weird but worth giving a try one day. Then I saw your recipe and immediately had to give it a go. The smell in the kitchen was fantastic.
The cooked wings turned out just like your photo and they taste as delicious and you said they would. Thanks so much for posting this recipe. Will be a favourite from now on.

I am glad you enjoyed this recipe! I never tried ham in coca cola though, but it would probably be worth trying one day. I am thinking of trying to make it with shrimps. What do you think?
I cooked a turkey for Thanksgiving in coca-cola one year. Very good…made a very moist turkey and everyone really enjoyed it.
I use cherry coke when I cook my ham. You put a 2liter of cherry coke at the bottom of the pan, let the hame sit up so it’s not in there, baste every 15 minutes. Turns out great. I do also make an cherry glaze I put on it right before it’s done.
I tried it too. It was awesome but now i should add on dried chillies
Riko! You should try with the dried chillies, they give the dish a slightly spicy touch
Hello,
While I was surfing on the net, I came across your site. I find your recipes very interesting, easy to prepare and delicious. I never heard before of cooking chicken with coca cola but I’m sure it’s going to be simply delicious. I would like to prepare coca cola chicken but I don’t know where to get the Chinese cooking wine. There are several chinese stores in Mauritius, maybe I should try to look for this ingredient there.
Hi Cindy,
Thank you for the mouth watering dishes. It brought back good memories from home.
Do you by chance have a recipe for “gateau la cire”. It is my favorite Chinese cake, I live in the USA and have tried different Chinese stores, unfortunately could not find any.

Which ingredient can be used as an alternative to Chinese Wine? Or i can omit it completely?
Chinese wine is often used as a marinating ingredient for meat. It gives better flavour…My advice is not to omit it. =)
Hi Cindy, I’ve tried your recipe…
so easy to do…
thank you to post this…:b
My pleasure, Yenny
